Velma M. Ritter, 86, New Market, passed away Thursday at 10:00 AM at the Ben Hur Nursing Home. She was born September 28, 1924 in Montgomery County to Byron and Opal (Dicken) Hamm. She married Gilbert C. "Tex" Ritter January 8, 1949 in Crawfordsville. He preceded her in death in 1999.

Mrs Ritter had worked at RR Donnelleys, Calico Alley, JC Penney, and sold Vanda Cosmetics. She was a 1941 graduate of Crawfordsville High School and a member of New Hope Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a seamstress making wedding dresses, prom dresses, and dresses for the Crawfordsville High School Choir. She also did upholstery work. She enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by 1 daughter: Jane (Kenny) Neal, Crawfordsville, and 1 son: William C. "Bill" (Cam) Ritter, Crawfordsville; 3 brothers: Byron (Bert) Hamm, Crawfordsville; Damon (Patti) Hamm, Waveland; and Raymond (Rita) Hamm, Crawfordsville, and 1 sister: Marjorie Vaughn, Crawfordsville. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren: Ryan and Heather Ritter and Kevin Neal, and 1 great grandchild: Haley Lastinger

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by 2 infant daughters, 1 infant son, and her parents.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 11, at New Hope Christian Church, Highway 231 South, Crawfordsville, with Rev. Glen McFarland officiating. Burial will be at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Darlington. Visitation will be Monday, January 10, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at New Hope Christian Church.
