Mrs. Virginia Lou Van Hook, 77, Des Moines, Iowa, and formerly of Crawfordsville, passed away Thursday, May 7th, at 3:30 PM in the Ramsey Village, Des Moines, where she had been a "favorite" resident since 2012. She was born December 16th, 1937, in Boone County, to Paul and Maxine (Joseph) Pittenger. She first married Clyde Ritter, June 16th, 1957. He preceded her in death.in 1979. She later married Fred Van Hook on April 10th, 1982, in Crawfordsville. He preceded her in death in 2002.

Mrs. Van Hook was a retired Sales Associate for J. C. Penneys for 23 years, where she won several customer service awards. She also had worked for Woolworths; was the quintessential Avon Lady for over 20 years, with numerous loyal customers; and after her retirement worked part-time for the Durham Home as a resident attendant. She attended grade school in Darlington and graduated from New Market High School in 1956. In 1956 she attended one year of college at the Indiana Business College in Indianapolis. She was a member of the Crawfordsville First Baptist Church; and was affectionately known as Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt Ludy, and Aunt Ginny.

She is survived by her daughters: Brenda (Don) Long, Ankeny, Iowa; Nancy Koleen (Marvin) Van Wyk, Boiling Springs, South Carolina; Bonnie (Rhett) Jones, Crawfordsville; step-daughters: Kay (Mike) Whitecotten, Crawfordsville; Linda Fulwider, Harrisonburg, Virginia; step-son: William "Bill" W. Van Hook, Valporasio; and brother: Max (Joyce) Pittenger, Crawfordsville. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 9 step-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; sister: Barbara Neely; and brother: Eddie Pittenger.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Thursday, May 14th, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, with Rev. James Ranard officiating. Burial will follow in the Darlington Odd Fellows Cemetery.
