Mrs. Virginia F. Mahaska, 90, Crawfordsville, passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side on Sunday at 4:45 AM, after suffering a major stroke. She was born May 4, 1922, in Montgomery County, near Waveland, to Charles and Mable (Motherhead) Huxhold. She married Cyril T. Mahaska, Sr. in 1941. He preceded her in death in 1979.
Mrs. Mahaska owned with her husband for many years, the Mahaska Heating & Sheet Metal Co. She also worked many years at Tenex Town Laundry and M&W Laundry and was a crossing guard for 19 years. She was educated in Waveland Schools; was a member of the Moose Lodge; and loved playing cards, mushroom hunting, and taking walks.
She is survived by her children: Cyril Mahaska, Jr., Lewisville, Colorado; Deloris (Don) Cotten, Crawfordsville; Janet (Rex) Hoskins, Howell, Michigan; Pamela Dickerson, Dayton, Indiana; and James Mahaska, Crawfordsville. Also surviving are grandchildren: Aaron and Alexander Mahaska; Victoria (David) Brown; William Phillips;
Michelle Cotten; Jennifer (Mark) Nicholson; Chassity Mahaska; Justin Lewis; Charlie Cooper; Heather (Bill) Pyle; and Eric Dickerson; also many loving great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son: Charles in 2000; and brothers: Elmer, Henry, and Manuel Huxhold; and sisters: Olive Brown and Maxine Fischer.
Friends may call at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, on Tuesday, October 2, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 3, at 2:00 PM, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, with Rev. Denver Fields officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Hill North Cemetery.
