Mrs. Vivian R. Spencer, 87, Sebring, Florida, and formerly of New Richmond, passed away Saturday, February 25, at 3:10 PM at The Whitlock House, Crawfordsville, after a long battle with lung cancer. She was born September 14, 1924, in Rockville, to David and Flora (Cloyd) Van Huss. She married Maynard M. Spencer, July 3, 1942, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Spencer was employed at Allisons in Indianapolis, during WW II, and later by Hughes Insurance Agency and McCormick-Metsker Agency for over 20 years. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Alamo Order of the Eastern Star; past member of the MNO Homemakers, Linden; member of the New Richmond Home Economics Club; served as a Cub Scout leader; and appeared with her husband as "extras" in the movie "Hoosiers". In Florida she enjoyed many hobbies; playing cards; and shopping. She was a 1942 graduate of Rockville High School.
She is survived by her children: Mike (Charlene) Spencer, Crawfordsville; and Kay Ellis, Chesterton, Indiana. Also surviving are sisters: Louise Miller, LaGrange, Indiana; Phyllis Holbert, Sebring, Florida; and Marilyn Harlow, Seymour, Indiana; grandchildren Angela, Sean, and Shane Spencer, and David Fite; great grandchildren: Maddux Fite and Jekory Howard; and her special friend of 60 years, Marge Waye. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 29, at 11:00 AM at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, with Mr. Jim Thurston
officiating. Burial will be at the Portland Mills Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
