Walter Thomas Britt Jr., age 86 of Crawfordsville passed away peacefully at Ben Hur Nursing and Rehabilitation while surrounded by his loving family on September 27, 2018. He was born in Glasgow, KY on April 16, 1932 to the late Walter Thomas Sr & Mary Beatrice (Davis) Britt.
Walter attended school in Glasgow KY then proudly served his country from 1951-1956 as a Sargent in the United States Army during the Korean War. On April 16, 1955 in Indianapolis he married the love of his life, Jenny V. (Nanny) Britt, who survives. He was plumber and pipefitter for the United Association Union Local 157 in Terre Haute from 1957 till his retirement in 1993. He was a member of the NRA and the Fremont Street Baptist Church. Walter was a man of God that loved his country and military. He loved helping people and volunteered at church and many other organizations throughout the community. He enjoyed rebuilding old cars and loved spending time with his family and grandkids.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jenny Britt of Crawfordsville; a son, Doug (Niki) Britt of Crawfordsville; two daughters, Teresa (Loren) Stephens of Waynetown and Debi (Jeff) Griffin of Williamsport; seven grandchildren, Tina McClure, Derrek McClure, Brookanna Walters, Brandon Stephens, Bryant Stephens, Chasitity French, and Zach Schoenfeldt; 14 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Edgar Britt; two sisters, Gladys Webb and Marie Mercer; and a grandson, Jason Britt.
Visitation will be at Fremont Street Baptist Church, 1908 Fremont Street in Crawfordsville on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 11:00am till the time of the funeral service at 1:00pm with Rev. Dan Aldrich officiating. Burial will follow at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery with military honors by the United States Army and Legion Post 72 Honor Guard.
