Walter "Sonny" O Ward

Mr. Walter O. "Sonny" Ward Jr. age 82 , formerly of Waynetown, In. passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday evening September 24, 2017 while a resident of Williamsburg Nursing Home, Crawfordsville, IN.

Sonny was born on December 5, 1934 at Paris Illinois, the son of Walter Sr. and Edith (nee: Franklin) Ward. Sonny grew up in Waynetown and attended school there after his mother had passed away when he was 5. A hard working man he worked for more than 35 years for Tru-Lay Block at Waynetown and after it closed he worked for a janitorial company at RR Donnely and Sons, then Crawfordsville Vault Company and the Myers Dinner Theater. From his early teen years he mowed yards for local families, he loved to garden, hunt mushrooms and was an avid fisherman teaching his children how to fish. In his later life he became a member of the Waynetown Christian Church.

Sonny will be greatly missed by his wife Nettie (Richey) Ward whom he married on February 4, 1956 at Indianapolis, In. She now resides at Williamsburg Nursing Home, Crawfordsville, In. He is also survived by his children, son: David Ward of Williamsport, In. and daughter Bonnie (husband: Scott) Harris of Waynetown, In. and 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 sisters, and his daughter-in-law Ginny Ward.

Funeral services for Sonny will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday September 26th at Shoemaker Funeral Home, 202 Bratton Rd, Waynetown, In. and officiated by his family and friends, Burial will follow in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the services at 3:00pm. Those who wish may make memorial donations to the charity of their choice.
