Welby Ward Jr

Mr. Welby Ward, Jr., 68, Crawfordsville, passed away Friday, December 23rd, at 6:09 AM in the Franciscan Health Crawfordsville Hospital. He was born January 3rd, 1948, in Rushville, Indiana, to Welby, Sr. and Imogene (Howell) Ward. He married Patricia Lou Axsom on November 4th, 1968, in Crawfordsville. She preceded him in death on May 10th, 2015.

Welby had worked for 42 years with the State Highway Department in Crawfordsville having last working as a Foreman. He was a graduate of Rushville High School; a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Indiana Attachment, Squad 0072, Crawfordsville; member of the Moose and Eagles Lodges of Crawfordsville; member of the VFW Auxilliary; and in his free time enjoyed fishing and riding his golf cart.

He is survived by his children: Patricia (Chet) Murray, Lake Holiday; Welby Joe (Christine) Ward, Clarks Hill; and Sammy Joe (Michele) Ward, Crawfordsville. Also surviving are his brothers: Steve (Coco) Buchanan, Rushville; Raymond Buchanan, Rushville; sisters: Linda (Bill) Griffin, Texas; Carolyn Dickey, Rushville; Nancy (Greg) Mason, Rushville; 10 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters: Janet and Juanita Ward.

Funeral services are scheduled for 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 28th, at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, with Pastor Dan Aldrich officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral service. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 PM until the service time
