Mr. William Robert Hendrix, 81, Crawfordsville, passed away at 12:13 PM on Sunday, March 3, in the St. Vincent Heart Hospital, Indianapolis. Mr. Hendrix was born November 25, 1931, in Lafayette, to William L. and Velma L. (Coleman) Hendrix. He married Carolyn Sue Haslam on April 21, 1951, in Crawfordsville. She survives.
Mr. Hendrix retired in 1989 from RR Donnelleys where he had been a Supervisor. He began his Donnelley career in 1949 in Crawfordsville as an apprentice artworker. After completion of his apprenticeship, he experienced his first expansion responsibilities for setting up new equipment and the hiring and training of new apprentices. He later transferred to the Willard, OH, division in 1964 as a preliminary supervisor and assisted in the division's expansion from a black and white platemaking operation to a full four-color preliminary operation. After that he was involved in four major start-up projects: Glasgow, KY., in 1970; Old Saybrook, Conn., in 1974; Mattoon, IL., in 1980; and Danville, KY., in 1985. He was a 1949 graduate of Roachdale High School; member of the Presbyterian Church; U. S. Navy Korean Conflict Veteran, having worked in the Pentagon, and later serving on the USS Curtis and the USS Boxer; was a member of the VFW and American Legion Posts; Lifetime member of the Southeastern Blind Rehabilitation Center; Cedar Creek Sportsman Club, Danville, KY.; and loved to fish, golf, hunt and shoot guns, and was a big jokester.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Karla (Larry) Saunders, Danville, KY; Karen Santos, Grand Island, FL.; sons: Kirk William Hendrix, Indianapolis; Kelly William (Tricia) Hendrix, Bowling Green, KY.; brothers: Dr. Jon (Jan) Hendrix, Muncie; James D. (Cyndi) Hendrix, Amherst, NH; and 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation was selected with a public service to be held at a later date in the Oak Hill North Cemetery Mausoleum, Crawfordsville. There will not be a public visitation.
